As part of the hotel's refurbishment, we upgraded the main flat roof to a warm roof in Alwitra Evalon VSK and waterproofed the terraces with a cold applied liquid system.

The Project

A Warm Roof Upgrade for a Hotel Refurbishment

On the main flat roof we were instructed to install a warm roof upgrade over the existing roof, to improve the U-value and renew the waterproofing system as part of the hotel refurbishment. The existing roof was covered with a self-adhered vapour control layer, 150mm PIR tissue faced insulation and Alwitra Evalon VSK single ply membrane. Tapered boards were fitted into the drop-down gully, and new outlets, skylights and vents were installed. Once the lead flashing was installed over the mansard, we fitted aluminium drip trim profiles to the perimeter edges for a neat finish.

Because of the detailing on the terrace areas, we used a cold applied liquid membrane system (Fleet liquid): primer, Fleet coat 30 primary layer, Fleet fleece, Fleet coat 30 secondary layer and a top coat of Traffic Grey with quartz for anti-slip walkways. The balustrade post details were waterproofed and integrated into the new system, finished with an angled aluminium drip trim onto the tiled roof below.
